The weather here in The Netherlands has been unseasonably cold lately.  Last week the snow and cold was so bad it caused many delays and cancellations in both flights and the train schedule.  Although it was cold and nasty out it didn’t stop many of the Dutch residents from taking advantage of the icy conditions to strap on a pair of ice skates and hit the canals. I was amazed to see the volume of people over the last few days take to the canals for some recreational skating.  Personally, the ice was a little too thin for my taste,

I would like to thank all of the people from the 2011 Global Focus Photography Competition for the award of 1st place for my submission.  It is always a great thrill to have an image recognized, and it is an honor to have taken first place in this competition.  This year there were many other great images submitted to the competition which makes this award that much more meaningful. Some background on this image: This image was shot on the eve of a first DOCTRID conference in Dublin Ireland in October of 2010.  I was actually there to film a

On August 6th, 2011 I was honored with the opportunity to shoot the wedding reception for Sarah and Joe Cox.  It was a great event filled with lots of laughing, dancing and a whole lot of people just having a great time.  This event was outside and unfortunately the Michigan summer weather was not willing to cooperate as it rained several times throughout the event.  The rain however, didn’t stop the fun from going on.  Sarah (the bride) looked amazing even in the rain, and it never dampened the mood.  This particular shoot was different as it was entirely outside,

On March 19th, 2011 I had the opportunity to shoot the wedding for Carol Landis and Joe Parr.  Their wedding was a wonderful event filled with lots of people, dancing, laughing and an overall good time.  For this shoot I ran a pretty small setup with 2 photographers and mostly on camera flash. Here is a short video of all the camera gear I packed for the shoot.  Only thing missing in this video is the second camera that was with Brunno (my second shooter). I shot this wedding with my Nikon D300s with the 24-70mm Nikkor f2.8 lens as

A short time after the holidays I decided to try something a little different for a change, instead of grabbing my trusty old Nikon D300s and heading out to grab some shots, I thought I would dust off my old 35mm camera and go shoot a roll of film.  So that’s exactly what I did. I grabbed my Olympus OM-1 35mm camera (circa 1974) cleaned it up and set out to have some fun. Of course as soon as I got it out and was getting all excited to start firing away I realized I needed a few things like

This past summer I had the fortune of being able to tour Giverny just outside of Paris.  The weather started out great as we headed out form Rouen, but by the time we reached Giverny the beautiful skies had given way to large storm clouds that quickly moved in.  fortunately we stayed dry until just after our tour, then the skies opened up and poured the rest of the afternoon. Here are a few shots I got while in the gardens.  Yes, I shot exclusively with my 10mm Nikkor Fisheye lens.
